In my previous blog about engaging a personal trainer, I wrote about increasing my sports activities from once a week to three times a week. I followed this pattern for about a year, and it was not too hard – I had fixed slots for basketball and fitness, and I usually went for an intensive walk on the weekend.
The video story (if you prefer to read the story, please continue below the video):
After about a year, I decided to make a slight step ahead and added one more intensive walk to my schedule. It looks like a small increase but coming home from the office late, changing clothes, and going out for a walk, sometimes in the dark, in the rain … but I was determined. I stuck with this pattern for several years until …. everything changed.
It happened in March 2020. Covid 19 entered our lives almost overnight, the world got locked down, and I started working from home office. Suddenly, despite working even more than before, I’ve got more freedom to plan my daily activities and felt a need to stretch my bones after sitting at the desk the whole day.
No sooner said than done – I introduced an intensive walk into my daily routine. An actual routine, both in terms of frequency and location. And that’s quite important – you know, it was not always easy to go for a walk – but if I go every day and to the same place, it makes it easier, as I don’t have to ask myself the two questions:
Should I go today, or should I rather postpone to tomorrow?Where do I go today?
I have been in the daily training routine for three years: 1 x fitness, 1 x basketball, and 5 x intensive walk in nature. Of course, as I got better and better, in the meantime, my daily walk has been continuously upgraded.
