Last week, I presented The Smart Dad Diet, mentioning that I had taken white bread, white flour pasta, potatoes, and white rice off the menu. So foods with a high glycaemic index. That was not easy because potatoes, in particular, are perhaps even my favorite food.
The video story (if you prefer to read the story, please continue below the video):
But I decided on another sacrifice – I stopped drinking beer, my favorite drink. It was a somewhat populist decision because I did not drink beer very often, maybe once a week on average. But beer also has a high glycaemic index (GI), somewhat on the level of potatoes, so I felt it was right to give it up.
I was much more successful at avoiding beer than abandoning high-GI food. I didn’t have a sip for the first four years, and since then, I’ve only had a few beers on special occasions – but still very rarely – two liters in total over three years.
Obviously, it is much easier for me to give up beer than potatoes. It probably has to do with the fact that we eat lunch every day, and of course, the children are not on the Smart Dad Diet. We often make potatoes for them, which challenges my persistence.
On the other hand, the challenge with beer is way easier. We usually don’t drink beer at home or even have it in the fridge.
Stay tuned!
