It’s been more than a month since we got our first electric car.
The story started over a year ago, as my wife started thinking about buying a new car. Something not too big, primarily for daily use, short distances within the city.
The video story (if you prefer to read the story, please continue below the video):
At first, we did not have an electric car in our minds. We were looking for smaller classical cars like a Mini or Peugeot. And then Russia invaded Ukraine, and everything changed. Increasing fuel prices caused a switch in our minds, and we started to think about buying an electric car.
Before we started to think about going electric, we were close to deciding to buy a Peugeot 208 or 2008; therefore, the first electric car we tried was an electric Peugeot 2008 – and we liked it. But you cannot buy the first car you have tested. My wife really liked the Mini and Fiat 500e, but finally,
we gave up due to a smaller battery and shorter range, and both cars are tiny – at least we wanted to be able to use the car for daily trips.
Therefore we extended our search – the next candidate was VW ID.3, but at that time, VW was not accepting orders for it at all – therefore, we decided to check its cousin – Cupra Born. Cupra Born shares the platform and technology with ID.3, but its look is more aggressive, and the interior makes a more classy and colorful impression. Offering a longer range, more space than Fiat 500 or Mini, and a more attractive look than Peugeot, the decision was finally not too difficult.
There was, of course, a downside – we were not the only ones that suddenly decided to go electric. Only a month earlier, shortly before the war in Ukraine, one could buy most models from stock, but after the war began, ordering lead times increased up to 12 months.
Just recently, about a month ago, our Cupra arrived. In the upcoming posts, I will keep sharing more of our Cupra story, about how we decided to go for Cupra Born, our thoughts and arguments, the driving experience, and of course, its performance, especially regarding range and electricity costs. Stay tuned!
